This short report gives an overview of rice fortification literature indexed in PubMed, including examples of successful public private engagement in fortification. It finds that rice fortification is mandatory in only six countries, in comparison to the 85 countries with mandatory wheat fortification. The paper reviews large scale trials in Costa Rica, India, Thailand and the Philippines, with four out of five showing improved health outcomes. It gives the example of construction companies in Singapore working with social enterprise to fortify rice for the caterers that feed their migrant workers.
