This short paper by the Food and Business Knowledge Platform focuses on public private partnerships (PPPs) in the agricultural sector in Africa. It gives a helpful overview of global governance policy shifts in recent years, such as the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition and Grow Africa, and looks at the growth of PPPs for nutrition. The paper assesses broad roles for governments, private investors and African partners in integrating PPPs into national agriculture development plans. It points to literature examining the inclusivity of these arrangements and asks important questions about fairness, transparency and accountability.
