This study evaluates the microbial safety of ready-to-eat fruits from six markets in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Findings show high contamination levels, particularly in sliced watermelon, with significant bacterial presence such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp. The study underscores the urgent need for improved hygiene practices, food safety training for vendors, and stringent regulatory measures to mitigate foodborne illnesses.
