Groups like the Borderlands Produce Rescue are recovering left over produce from private farms and distributing fresh, nutritious produce to communities on the border of the US and Mexico. When a produce distributor has left over produce, they call Borderlands Produce Rescue who comes to pick up and transport the food to in need communities. Borderlands Produce Rescue rescues 32 million pounds of produce annually. This sort of cooperation between private producers, nonprofit distributors and consumers could lead to improved food security for those currently who do may struggle with access and affordability of fresh produce.
