This study evaluates the bacteriological quality of locally produced beverages (kunu, zobo, tiger-nut, and pineapple drinks) sold in Calabar, Nigeria. Samples from five markets revealed bacterial contamination levels exceeding acceptable standards. Dominant bacteria included coagulase-negative Staphylococci (27%), Escherichia coli (12.2%), and Enterobacter species (10.4%). The findings highlight significant public health risks, emphasizing the need for vendor education on hygiene and regular regulatory inspections.
