Article in Imperial College Business School Forum addressing the space that women have to express breast milk in the workplace in America. In the U.S. it is not uncommon for women to express milk in toilets, storage closets, or even under their desks. This article makes a strong case for states to enact and enforce breastfeeding legislation, and highlights the benefits businesses could reap with more family friendly policies. The authors claim that supportive breastfeeding policies can help increase breastfeeding rates, reduce mother absenteeism, and increase the within-household gender pay gap. A thought-provoking article in response to American opposition to the global resolution encouraging breastfeeding.
