This cohort study evaluates the longitudinal impact of plant-based diet indices (PDI, hPDI, and uPDI) on hypertension risk using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. A stable and high healthful plant-based diet (hPDI) was associated with a 24% reduced risk of hypertension, while unhealthful plant-based diets increased the risk. These results emphasize the importance of maintaining high-quality plant-based diets over time for hypertension prevention.
