This study finds that simplified treatment protocols for severe acute malnutrition significantly reduce relapse rates compared to standard approaches (5.6% vs. 39.8%). It shows that using MUAC-based criteria and lower therapeutic food doses can improve recovery outcomes, while highlighting the importance of post-discharge monitoring and managing comorbidities to prevent relapse.
