This Nigeria-focused report presents findings from the 2021 National Food Consumption and Micronutrient Survey (NFCMS), which provides comprehensive data on dietary intake and micronutrient status of women and children.

Key findings:

30% of Nigerian children are stunted, with high rates of anemia and micronutrient deficiencies.
Protein consumption remains low, especially from animal-sourced foods.
Biofortified crop consumption is minimal, with only 4.7% consuming orange-fleshed sweet potatoes and 13.5% consuming orange maize.
Fortified food consumption is uneven, with high intake of fortified salt (99%) but low for wheat flour (28%).
Food insecurity remains severe, with 79% of surveyed households classified as food insecure.
The report urges investment in nutrition programs, biofortification, and fortification expansion to improve Nigeria’s food security and health outcomes.
