High Availability of Vegetables and Fruit Through Government-Funded School Lunch Is Not Reflected in 4th Grade Pupils’ Intake

This study assesses Swedish 4th graders’ intake of vegetables and fruit provided through government-funded school lunches. Despite high availability, the intake among students was low, influenced by socioeconomic background and household habits. The results suggest that simply providing vegetables may not be enough to increase consumption and calls for strategies to make these foods more appealing to children.
