This study aims to evaluate the environmental impact of different infant feeding types, including breastfeeding (BF), formula feeding (FF), and mixed feeding, considering the accessories used and the postpartum maternal diet in the first month of the baby’s life. The study, conducted in the Barcelona North Metropolitan Area, will recruit 408 postpartum women (4–6 weeks postpartum) from primary care settings. Data will be collected through the GREEN MOTHER Survey, which covers four dimensions: socio-demographic and clinical data, infant feeding accessories, maternal dietary habits, and a 24-hour dietary recall of the mothers. The study will analyze the prevalence of feeding types at birth and month 1 and compare the environmental impact of these feeding methods in terms of climate change, water consumption, and scarcity. This research is a part of a broader project, with Phase II focusing on educational interventions promoting breastfeeding, nutrition, and sustainability based on the Phase I findings. The results will be shared with healthcare professionals and stakeholders to raise awareness about the environmental sustainability of infant feeding practices.
