This study models the impacts of replacing animal-source foods with plant-based alternatives (PBAs) and whole foods (WFs) on the Swedish diet. Results show that PBAs reduce greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and freshwater use significantly, with vegan diets showing the highest reduction. While PBAs meet most nutritional needs, they are costlier than WFs. Findings highlight the potential of PBAs and WFs to reduce environmental impacts and support health in Sweden, albeit with some limitations in nutrient adequacy.
