This narrative review investigates how plant-based, Mediterranean, and Western diets influence gut microbiota and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). While plant-based and Mediterranean diets promote beneficial metabolites like SCFAs and reduce harmful ones like TMAO, Western diets lead to gut dysbiosis, favoring pathogenic bacteria and inflammation. The study emphasizes dietary interventions to enhance gut health and prevent NCDs, advocating for the superiority of fiber-rich diets.
