This case study analyzes a digital nutrition messaging initiative rolled out during the COVID-19 pandemic in Telangana, India. It used WhatsApp and voice calls to deliver messages on IYCF, maternal nutrition, ECD, and hygiene to pregnant and lactating women. The messages were supplemented with remote data collection to monitor behavior change and access to services.
The intervention showed strong reach and message recall, with improved dietary and hygiene practices. It highlights the value of combining digital tools with Anganwadi worker follow-up and personalized content. The study concludes that digital behavior change interventions are feasible and scalable in rural India if designed with user context in mind and integrated into government delivery systems.
