This study, led by Tania C. Aburto and colleagues, examines the relationship between adherence to the EAT-Lancet reference diet and diet costs in Mexico, using data from the 2012 and 2016 Mexican National Health and Nutrition Surveys. The findings reveal that individuals adhering more closely to the EAT-Lancet diet tend to have lower diet costs, particularly among low- and middle-socioeconomic status groups. The study highlights the potential for promoting healthier diets without increasing food expenditures in the Mexican population, contrary to trends observed in higher-income countries.
