This study assessed vitamin D status in Norwegian infants aged 6 and 12 months and explored associations with dietary intake and maternal vitamin D status. Mean serum vitamin D levels were within sufficient ranges in both age groups, though levels were higher in 6-month-olds. Vitamin D intake from supplements and fortified formula was positively associated with serum levels, but breastfeeding had no significant impact. Maternal vitamin D status showed a weak but positive correlation with the child’s status. The study underscores the importance of early vitamin D supplementation for adequate nutritional status in infants.
