This study examines the role of community-led initiatives in driving transformative responses to climate change and sustainability challenges. With conventional adaptation strategies proving insufficient, there is a growing emphasis on transformative adaptation, driven by grassroots, bottom-up processes in local communities. These initiatives are essential for implementing place-based solutions that align with broader climate goals and address sustainability issues.
Through a literature review and analysis of online case studies, the research identifies key factors that enable transformative adaptation within communities. These include capacity-building, strong leadership, various forms of scaling, and supportive governance structures. Community initiatives introduce innovative strategies that, while locally focused, hold potential for broader societal impact if expanded and integrated on larger scales. The findings highlight the importance of empowering communities to create scalable and sustainable transformations that address climate risks effectively.
