Soybeans are a vital crop for smallholder farmers in Ghana, offering economic benefits, protein for human and livestock consumption, and soil fertility improvements through nitrogen fixation. However, only 26% of Ghana’s potential 700,000 metric tonnes of soybeans are currently produced due to challenges such as low yields, limited access to improved seeds, and climate-related constraints. This FAO-supported project, in partnership with the Government of Japan, aimed to improve soybean production through investments in land development, green production technologies, and post-harvest management. The project trained over 1,100 farmers (majority women), provided 3,750 tonnes of seeds, and promoted soybean utilization in school feeding programs.
