This study assesses the prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) among preschool children (ages 3-6) in rural India, identifying risk factors such as low maternal education, inadequate breastfeeding practices, and lack of access to energy-dense foods. Data from a sample of 3-6-year-old children revealed that nearly 28% were underweight, with higher malnutrition rates in children from low-income families and those lacking immunizations. The study emphasizes the need for community-based interventions addressing dietary practices, maternal education, and health service access to mitigate PEM in vulnerable child populations.
