This study examines compliance with Mexico’s federal guidelines on school food environments, particularly focusing on elementary schools in Northwest Mexico. The research highlights poor implementation of the 2014 AGREEMENT on food and beverage sales in schools, showing that only 15.1% of schools reported full implementation, while compliance in canteens was as low as 1%. Schools still offered sugar-sweetened beverages and high-calorie, low-nutrient foods. The study emphasizes the need for enhanced regulatory oversight and parental engagement to improve school food environments.
