This narrative review examines the role of nutritional habits in the onset and management of Crohn’s disease (CD). It explores how poor dietary patterns—especially Westernized diets high in ultra-processed foods, spicy/fatty items, and carbonated drinks—may contribute to CD development. In contrast, Mediterranean-style diets are linked to symptom remission and reduced inflammation. The review also discusses how diet influences the gut microbiota, which plays a key role in inflammation and immune responses in CD. While patients often modify their diets post-diagnosis to manage symptoms, it is unclear whether lifelong eating patterns directly cause CD. The paper calls for longitudinal studies comparing dietary patterns in CD patients and healthy controls to understand causal links.
