This study investigates the nutrition literacy levels of primary school students in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China, and identifies the key factors influencing adequate nutrition literacy among children in grades 3–5. Conducted as a large-scale cross-sectional survey, the research included 2,423 students from 21 public primary schools selected through cluster random sampling.
The article begins by emphasizing the growing importance of nutrition literacy within the context of China’s “Healthy China 2030” initiative. The authors explain that childhood is a critical developmental period during which dietary habits and health behaviors are formed. Nutrition literacy is defined not only as the acquisition of nutritional knowledge but also as the ability to access, understand, evaluate, and apply nutrition information in daily food-related decisions.
