This study explores the relationship between magnesium depletion and cardiovascular outcomes in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) patients, using the magnesium depletion score (MDS). The analysis included 3,199 DKD patients from the NHANES database.
Key findings:
MDS ≥ 3 was associated with a 371% increase in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.
DKD patients with high MDS had a 78% higher all-cause mortality rate and 76% higher cardiovascular mortality.
MDS was a significant predictor of 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year mortality.
Stratified analysis confirmed consistent associations across demographics.
This study highlights magnesium depletion as a critical factor in DKD prognosis, suggesting potential interventions for improving cardiovascular outcomes.
