This study develops global indices and maps to assess the prevalence of hidden hunger—micronutrient deficiencies that contribute to stunting, anemia, and vitamin A deficiency. Using data from 149 countries, the study identifies sub-Saharan Africa, India, and Afghanistan as having the highest burden of micronutrient deficiencies.

Findings show that hidden hunger affects up to 90% of children in the worst-hit regions, with deficiencies in iron, zinc, vitamin A, and iodine contributing to 7% of the global disease burden. The study calls for evidence-based nutrition policies, large-scale food fortification, and targeted supplementation to reduce micronutrient malnutrition.
