This editorial critiques the current methods used to establish the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs), which are revised every five years. Concerns about reliability, transparency, and bias in the systematic reviews (SRs) conducted by the USDA’s Nutrition Evidence Systematic Review (NESR) team are highlighted. A study assessing SRs in the 2020–2025 cycle revealed methodological and reporting gaps, including the lack of meta-analyses and heterogeneity assessments. Despite critical weaknesses, the overall methodological quality was deemed reasonable. The editorial calls for enhancing the rigor and reproducibility of evidence reviews to ensure the DGAs' validity.
