This study, led by Sukyoung Jung and colleagues, develops and validates a Sustainable Diet Index for US adults (SDI-US). The index measures adherence to sustainable dietary practices by evaluating nutritional quality, environmental impact, economic affordability, and sociocultural behaviors. Data from over 25,000 US adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was analyzed, confirming the index's validity in capturing these dimensions. Results showed that higher SDI-US scores were associated with healthier, more sustainable eating patterns. The SDI-US can serve as a useful tool for monitoring dietary sustainability in the US population
