This study assesses the availability, retail penetration, and fortification quality of staple foods in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, India. Researchers analyzed milk, oil, rice, salt, and wheat flour to determine the prevalence of fortified food products in markets.

Key findings:

Fortification rates vary: 96% of salt and 98% of wheat flour were fortified, but only 55% of rice met fortification standards.
Oil fortification remains inconsistent, with only 78% of analyzed products meeting required levels.
Retail penetration of fortified foods is improving, but labeling discrepancies persist.
The report calls for stricter fortification policies, better labeling standards, and consumer awareness campaigns to ensure nutritional adequacy in staple foods.
