This study explores artificial ripening practices in mangoes sold in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Among 225 traders surveyed, 80% used calcium carbide (caba) and ethephon (cabadji), posing significant health risks. Traders experienced side effects such as headaches and dizziness, highlighting inadequate protection during application. The study urges regulatory actions to curb unsafe ripening practices and protect consumer health.
