This study evaluates the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the alcohol industry (AI) in Portugal, revealing how CSR activities can influence public health policy. AI actors frequently engage in philanthropy and education about responsible drinking; however, these initiatives often conflict with health policies aiming to reduce alcohol-related harms. The study suggests that CSR activities may be used to improve AI’s image while potentially obstructing more stringent alcohol policies, recommending strict monitoring and regulation of these CSR efforts.
