The paper "The affordability of a healthy and sustainable diet: an Australian case study" by Tara Goulding, Rebecca Lindberg, and Catherine Georgina Russell assesses the cost and affordability of the Planetary Health Diet (PHD) compared to the typical Australian diet. Using a food basket model based on the PHD, the study conducted online supermarket surveys to estimate the costs for a household across different socio-economic areas in Australia. The results showed that the PHD basket was consistently more affordable than the typical Australian diet across all regions and income groups. The findings highlight the potential for the PHD to support public health and food policy aimed at improving nutrition, food security, and sustainability.
