This FAO-supported project tackled Ethiopia’s high post-harvest losses (25–35% for cereals and pulses) through improved storage, policy advocacy, and farmer training. Implemented across five regions, the project introduced metal silos and hermetic storage bags, reducing the need for chemical pesticides and benefiting 156,100 smallholder farmers. It also led to the establishment of Ethiopia’s first national post-harvest management strategy and integration of post-harvest practices into Agricultural Technical Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) curricula. The initiative improved food security and created job opportunities for youth artisans.
