This study examines the prevalence of hypovitaminosis D among children and adolescents in Kabul, Afghanistan. The cross-sectional study included 4,008 children aged 1 month to 18 years, finding that 62.5% had low vitamin D levels. The study identifies female sex, higher socioeconomic status, maternal education, and urban residence as significant factors influencing vitamin D deficiency.
The results highlight a critical public health concern, emphasizing the need for improved vitamin D supplementation, dietary interventions, and awareness campaigns to address widespread deficiency.
