This study, led by Akinkunmi Paul Okekunle and colleagues, develops and applies a Sustainable Diet Index (SDI) to assess the healthfulness, environmental impact, sociocultural appropriateness, and financial affordability of diets among Ghanaian adults in various contexts, including rural and urban Ghana as well as Ghanaian migrants in Europe. The findings reveal that while European living environments improved diet quality and affordability, rural Ghana demonstrated better sociocultural appropriateness and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The study highlights the complexities of dietary sustainability in populations undergoing socio-economic transitions, providing insights into how environment influences dietary practices.
