This systematic review examines how maternal lifestyle factors—diet, physical activity, and smoking—impact breast milk composition and infant health. Findings indicate that maternal BMI and nutrient intake significantly influence breast milk’s fatty acid profile, affecting infant growth and cognitive development. Smoking was linked to lower osteopontin levels, potentially harming immunity. The study underscores the need for policies promoting maternal health and nutrition to improve breastfeeding outcomes and child development.
