This study evaluates the appeal and practical use of protein- and energy-enriched in-between meals for elderly residents in Swedish care homes. Through consumer tests and focus group discussions with elderly participants and care staff, researchers found high preference for sweet and cold items like ice cream and cheesecake. Attributes like colorful appearance, small portion size, and texture were crucial. Findings suggest these enriched in-between meals can support nutritional intake, especially for individuals with reduced appetite or swallowing difficulties.
