This study evaluates the effectiveness of a community-based growth monitoring and promotion (cGMP) program implemented in five districts of Afghanistan. The program, designed for illiterate community health workers, aimed to assess child nutrition, promote optimal feeding practices, and mobilize social change.
Findings show that children participating in the program experienced an average increase of 0.3 Z-scores in weight-for-age, with the greatest improvement seen in underweight children under nine months old. The study underscores the importance of community-led nutrition interventions in tackling child malnutrition in Afghanistan.
