This study evaluates a community health worker (CHW)-led gestational diabetes screening intervention in Pune, India, using critical realist thematic analysis and mechanism mapping. CHWs successfully increased screening uptake through logistical and affective pathways. Mechanism mapping revealed areas for improvement in clinical management. The study demonstrates how qualitative data can elucidate causal mechanisms, enhancing the generalizability of health interventions.
