This study presents a three-step framework to evaluate food safety in circular food systems, focusing on the reuse of side streams in food production. The framework addresses changes in the food supply chain, potential hazards, and the prioritization of risks based on hazard persistence and transfer. Tested through case studies, it highlights critical safety concerns, such as the accumulation of contaminants in food products, offering a structured approach to ensure safe circular food production practices in alignment with the European Green Deal.
