This baseline study assesses the role of women in small-scale fisheries in five African countries, focusing on food security, gender equality, and sustainable livelihoods. The report presents data on women’s participation in decision-making, fish processing, post-harvest handling, and market access. Key findings highlight barriers such as limited access to extension services, financial constraints, and gender-based discrimination. The report provides recommendations for strengthening women’s roles in fisheries governance, increasing financial inclusion, and improving working conditions. It also aligns with the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF Guidelines).
