This systematic review and meta-analysis examine the impact of school-based food and nutrition education programs on adolescent food consumption.
Key findings:
Interventions increased fruit consumption (mean difference: 0.09 servings/day).
Vegetable intake also improved (MD = 0.59 times/week).
Multicomponent interventions (education + environmental changes) were more effective.
Family involvement and long-duration programs showed better results in improving dietary habits.
Despite positive trends, additional strategies are needed to sustain long-term behavioral changes.
The study highlights the potential of school-based nutrition education in promoting healthier eating habits among adolescents.
