This data-driven study examines how fossil fuel companies, NGOs, and IGOs interact on social media regarding climate topics. Using sentiment analysis and autoregressive modeling on 668,826 tweets, it finds that fossil fuel firms strategically reframe discussions, focusing on corporate sustainability and public relations. NGOs and IGOs often respond to industry messaging but are less likely to shift their topics. The study suggests that fossil fuel firms’ reframing contributes to a climate misinformation ecosystem that complicates public perception.
