This study examines the potential causal relationship between dairy consumption and cognitive function in older adults using Mendelian randomization. It analyzes data from three large population-based cohorts (CoLaus|PsyCoLaus, the Rotterdam Study, and the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging). The study finds no significant association between dairy intake and cognitive decline, challenging previous observational research. It suggests that previous findings may have been confounded by lifestyle and genetic factors. Despite regional variations in dairy intake, the overall effect on cognitive function was minimal, indicating that dairy consumption alone is unlikely to prevent dementia.
