The Donor Committee for Enterprise Development is a forum for learning about the most effective ways to create economic opportunities from private sector strategies. The DCED working group have outlined definitions of private sector engagement and frameworks to guide actions and workstreams. Figure 1 gives a useful summary of the different depths of engagement, illustrating that a collaboration can operate at strategic levels - from one that simply informs or consults to one that integrates and empowers. The levels of engagement can be facilitated by a variety of mechanisms, which are helpfully outlined on page eight. Mechanisms range from: consultations, multi-stakeholder platforms, policy dialogue, technical assistance, challenge funds, grants, research, to finance. Equally helpful is the list of engagement strategies. This is an operational document that provides clarification for both public and private actors.
