This study assesses the relationship between vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) on treatment escalation in newly diagnosed Crohn’s disease (CD) patients. Among 108 patients from a Chinese IBD cohort, 78.7% had VDD. VDD was significantly associated with a higher risk of needing advanced treatments (infliximab or immunosuppressants). The study found a synergistic effect: patients with both VDD and high PLR had over 4 times the risk of treatment escalation. These findings highlight the importance of monitoring and correcting vitamin D levels, especially in CD patients with elevated inflammation markers.
