This study explores the relationship between Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) and depression prevalence in elderly individuals using data from NHANES (2011–2014). The study analyzed 2,946 participants and found a negative correlation between GNRI and depression prevalence, indicating that lower GNRI scores were associated with higher depression rates. The study identified a non-linear correlation with a threshold GNRI of 104.18, beyond which the risk of depression significantly increases.

Subgroup analysis revealed that factors such as gender, race, BMI, education level, and marital status influenced the relationship between GNRI and depression. The findings suggest that GNRI can serve as a predictive tool for depression risk in elderly individuals, emphasizing the need for nutritional interventions to improve mental health outcomes.
