This special report evaluates Sudan’s food supply and agricultural production amid conflict and economic challenges. The ongoing conflict since April 2023 has devastated agriculture, displaced millions, and severely impacted food production. National cereal production in 2023/24 fell by 46% compared to the previous year, driven by insecurity, reduced planting, erratic rainfall, and soaring input costs. Food inflation surged, trade disruptions intensified, and wheat imports sharply declined, exacerbating food shortages. The report stresses the urgent need for humanitarian aid, policy responses, and long-term support for Sudan’s agricultural recovery.
