Event

Unlocking African children’s full potential with nutritious school meals

Wednesday 28 August, 18:00–19:30, Exhibition Hall B08
Pacifico Yokohama, 1-1-1, Minato Mirai, Nishiku, Yokohama, Japan.

DSM, GAIN and the Global Child Nutrition Foundation will host this side event at TICAD7.

With 58 million stunted children on the continent and stunting rates as high as 40% in some African countries, malnutrition remains a public health emergency in Africa and hinders optimal child development. School meal programs have been recognized by the international community as an opportunity to fill a child’s nutrient intake gap.

The objectives of this side-event are to discuss and inspire the attendants of TICAD7 on how child nutrition can be improved to unlock Africa’s full potential by focusing in particular on the nutrition value of school meals. The panel discussion will focus on how innovative and proven cost-effective nutritious solutions can improve children’s nutrient intake through school meals and how can Japanese know-how be used to support Africa’s efforts to improve nutrition.

The side-event will offer interpretation English-Japanese and Japanese-English.
