This study explores the role of Sfrp5, an anti-inflammatory adipokine, in childhood and adolescent obesity. The research involved 120 participants categorized by BMI and implemented a 1-year structured lifestyle intervention focusing on diet, sleep, and exercise. Significant improvements were observed in BMI, body composition, inflammation markers, and metabolic profiles. Sfrp5 levels decreased in obese individuals but increased in those with morbid obesity following weight loss. The study highlights the relationship between Sfrp5, obesity, and metabolic homeostasis, emphasizing its potential as a marker and therapeutic target.
