This large-scale prospective cohort study used NHANES 1999–2018 data (n = 53,333) to assess how nonfood prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics affect total and cause-specific mortality. The results show that users had significantly lower mortality risks from all causes (HR = 0.41), heart disease, cancer, and other causes. Women and individuals without hypertension benefited most. The findings emphasize the potential role of gut-modulating supplements in reducing premature mortality, especially when used consistently.
