The report discusses efforts to strengthen Liberia’s national food control system to enhance food safety and improve trade. The initiative, funded by FAO with support from multiple government ministries, addressed challenges such as fragmented food safety governance, lack of clarity in mandates, and inefficient coordination. The project focused on building capacity in food safety monitoring, amending food safety laws to align with international standards, and improving laboratory services. Key achievements include training over 50 personnel, equipping three laboratories with advanced testing equipment, and setting up a food standardization and trade system. The initiative contributed to multiple SDGs, particularly those related to public health, poverty reduction, and responsible consumption.
